摘　　要：《老人与海》艺术上的不完美却不能阻止它名声鹊起,而且大为畅销。主要原因在于这部作品不仅以显而易见的小说形式反映了海明威作为一个作家和一个男人同自己的种种搏斗,而且也代表了一位深恐自己才思已经干涸的作家富有深刻含义的个人宣言。另一方面,《老人与海》的畅销也与一种微妙的美国当时的社会情绪相关。＂The Old Man and the Sea＂ art is not perfect, but can not prevent its reputation, but also greatly popular.
