摘　　要：郭继德先生撰写的《美国戏剧史》是国内第一部美国戏剧通史。该著作采用了以史为纲、点面结合的方式,详述了美国戏剧的发展历程,同时以20世纪以来的戏剧发展为重点,介绍代表性作家作品,并对当前美国戏剧的发展趋势进行了概述。该书全面介绍了非裔、华裔和西语裔等少数族裔戏剧,以及荒诞戏剧、女性戏剧、实验戏剧、喜剧和地方戏剧等不同主题、形式各异的戏剧,为当今多元文化视野下的美国戏剧研究提供了重要参考。A History of American Drama written by Professor Guo Jide is the first history of American drama published in China. The monograph adopts a combination of temporal and spacial approaches to study the evolution of American drama from the Colonial Period to the present, with an emphasis on the 20ih century drama. It provides a detailed interpretation of influential playwrights and their works in the 20th century, and a brief introduction to the latest trends in American theatre. The book covers theatres of diverse styles and by various cultural groups, specifically such ethnic branches as Afro-American, Chinese American and Hispanic, as well as theatre of the absurd, experimental theatre, melodrama and regional theatre. It is not only a history, but also an excellent reference of research ~aide under the context of multiculturalism
