摘　　要：林文庆校长执掌私立厦门大学16年,对于厦大的发展及其文化品性的塑造产生了不可磨灭的深远影响。有鉴于其办学经历和思想长期淡出公众视野,《自强不息止于至善--厦门大学校长林文庆》一书以溯源厦大校史和阐释厦大文化精神为主线,对林文庆丰富的办学经历和教育理念进行详细勾勒和解读。该书以林文庆作为办学者的特殊视角来审视与观照厦门大学这一有机体的生成和存在状态,将关注其个体的生命状态与审视厦大的发展进程加以有机整合,在内在研究理路与研究内容方面均有所突破,堪称一部"一个人的大学史",为深入理解更加丰满真实的林文庆提供了全方位视角,对于民国研究起到知秋一叶与见微知著的示范意义。Lim Boon Keng is in charge of Xiamen university for 16 years, and has profound influence upon the development and the shaping of cultural character of Xiamen University. Because his educational experiences and thoughts fade out of public view for a long time, the book, taking the history and the interpretation of the culture spirit of Xiamen University as main line, introduces the rich educational experience and philosophy of Lira Boon Keng. From the special perspective of Lira as a runner, the book exams the existence of Xiamen University and integrates his individual state of life with the development of Xiamen University. Overall, there is breakthrough in this book in terms of internal research ideas and content, and the book can be called a personal history of the university, which provides an all-round perspective to deeply understand a full and true Lira.
