Objective To identify the effect of statins taking on cognitive function in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods 70 patients with chronic heart failure(NYHA Ⅱ~Ⅳ),whose left ventricular ejection fractions were lower than 45%,were included.35 patients who had continuously taken statins for 3 months were enrolled in the statins therapy group, and the others who had not taken statins were enrolled in the control group. Then Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE)were used to evalue the cognition function at the time of screening and after 3 months follow-up. Results There was no significant difference in MMSE scores between statins therapy group and control group at the time of screening(P=0.78)and after 3 months follow-up(P=0.77).The ratio of cognition impairment had no significant differentce between the two groups(P=0.74,P=0.57).In each group, there was no significant difference in MMSE scores at the time of screening and after 3 months follow-up(P=0.74,P=0.57). Conclusion The study has failed to prove that statins could improve the cognitive function of patients with chronic heart failure, suggests that short-term statins therapy could not improve cognitive function in patients with chronic heart failure.
