摘　　要：作为福克纳《喧嚣与骚动》和《押沙龙,押沙龙!》两部作品里迷惘青年的典型代表,昆丁深知南方古老血液里隐藏的罪恶,却又不能舍弃南方社会曾有过的高贵品德而在新生社会中重生。本文通过分析这两部作品中昆丁的形象,阐释了他死亡悲剧的原由和意义,并得出昆丁形象是福克纳对于人类文明发展方向的反思之结晶这样的结论。As a typical bemused youth both in the works of The Sound and the Fury and Absalom, Absalom,Quentin spots the weakness and sinfulness in the Old South,but he cannot abandon the traditional noble virtues and survive as a walking dead in the modern New South. With a careful analysis on the Quentin image, the paper explains the cause and effect of his tragic death, which reveals Faulkner＇s critical reflection on the development of civilization of human beings.
