Taking advantage of methods of cement mortar strength ratio and the test method of pozzolanic activity, the shale pozzolanic activity can be evaluated by calcined treatment with condition of 750- 900 ℃ and 60 - 150 min's soaking; The result shows that all the calcined shale possesses activity and the shale which treated with 850 ℃ and 120 min' s soaking has the highest activity and the pozzolanic activity index reaches to 99.6% ; while over high calcined temperature and soaking time ( above 900 ℃ and 90 min) will lead to the sharp decline of activity. By means of X-Ray Diffraction test, we analyzed the mechanism of shale acquiring pozzolanic activity. It is found that, in the analysis, when the calcined temperature is higher than 750 ℃, the clay mineral kaolinite diffraction peak and carbonate mineral dolomite diffraction peak in shale will both disappear, while the calcium carbonate and periclase diffraction peak will appear; when the calcined temperature is higher than 850 ℃, the calcium carbonate diffraction peak will disappear, and illite diffraction peak will be weaken with the gradual increase of temperature, and the reason why burnt shale can acquire higher activity is the dehydration and disintegration of mineral in shale.
