Objective To compare the efficacies of liver-reinforcing and spasm-relieving acupuncture versus conventional acupuncture in treating post-stroke neurological deficits. Method The enrolled patients were randomly allocated to an experiment group (90 cases) and a control group (90 cases). The experiment group received liver-reinforcing and spasm-relieving acupuncture and the control group, conventional point selection-based acupuncture, Both groups receive step-by-step limb function training with joint mobilizations (Bobath and Rood). Limb neurological deficit was examined in the two groups before and after treatment. Result A clinical evaluation of neural function showed that the total efficacy rate was 82.7% in the experiment group and 55.1% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P〈0.05). The total efficacy rate was higher in the experiment group than in the control group. Conclusion The total efficacy rate of liver-reinforcing and spasm-relieving acupuncture as main treatment is higher than that of conventional point selection-based acupuncture for post-stroke neurological deficits.
