摘 要:TS的生成既受到言者及其认知和心理等内部动力的驱动,也受到话语及其修辞、社会、文化、语用等外部动力的驱动。阐释了解释TS的幽默原则、关联原则、引述机制和隐喻机制,着重阐述了中国人创造英语TS尤其是创造汉语TS的可能性、可行性及方法。学习、仿造或研究TS时不可割裂各种TS的关系,也不可割裂TS和其他几十种修辞格的关系。From a pragmatic (pragma-cognitive and pragma-rhetoric) perspective, this thesis explores Tom Swifty (TS): its origin, its classification in light of its formal and semantic features, and its description. Then the paper discusses the pragmatic markedness value of various TS types. It is maintained that the generation of TS is internally motivated by speaker and his cognition and mentality, and externally motivated by utterance and rhetoric, society, culture and prag- matics which have to do with the utterance. The paper discusses Humour Principle, Relevance Principle, the quotation mechanism, and the metaphor mechanism, which jointly interpret TS. The paper emphatically elaborates possibility, fea- sibility and means of Chinese people's TS generation in English and more significantly in Chinese. In the end it is pointed out that in the course of learning, simulation or research of TS, one should not isolate varied types of TS or dissever the relationship between TS and dozens of other figurative devices.
