Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the access devices in transumbilical endoscopic surgery in a training simulator. Methods From June 2010 to March 2011, Multi-ports, TriPort and SILS Port were compared through the horizontal traction experiment and the force feedback experiment, on which a measuring platform was set up with different access devices and a universal testing machine. Results In the horizontal traction experiment, the different forces on the instruments in the access devices were detected significantly ( Multi-ports < SILS Port < TriPort )( P < 0.05 ). In the force feedback experimental, Multi-ports had used least force, the difference between Multi-ports group and TriPort group was statistically significant ( P < 0.05 ). There was marked difference between SILS Port group and TriPort group ( P < 0.05 ), but there was no significant difference between Multi-ports group and SILS Port group ( P > 0.05 ). Conclusions Compared with SILS Port and TriPort, Multi-ports are associated with the least force and relatively the most flexible use in a training simulator.
