摘　　要：美国新锐小说家凯文.布洛克梅尔创作的短篇小说《天顶》于2002年获得欧.亨利奖。《天顶》讲述了一个看似荒诞不经的现代寓言故事:主人公居住的小镇因一面巨大的、类似镜子般的天顶的降落而毁灭。小说凸显出美国社会源自宗教信仰的浓厚世界末日情结,折射出9/11恐怖袭击之后普通民众的心理创伤。在表现手法上,《天顶》具有明显的魔幻现实主义特点,布洛克梅尔采用象征和隐喻等手法,大量运用与死亡和末日有关的意象,使文本具有独特的艺术感召力。'The Ceiling' by Kevin Brockmeier,a new rising star writer in the U.S.,was awarded the O.Henry first prize in 2002.It tells an uncanny story,a contemporary parable,in which the town where the main character 'I' lives is destroyed by an enormous falling ceiling from the sky,thus it is a story that reflects not only the end-of-the-world complex commonly found among American people,but also their traumatic experience after 9/11 terrorist attack.Artistically featured with magical realism,'The Ceiling' employs a great number of symbols,metaphors and images related to death,which brings about a unique experience for the reader.
