摘　　要：发现刘国钧《近代图书馆之性质》一文最早发表于1919年9月29日上海《时报.教育周刊》的"世界教育新思潮"栏目。文中阐述了近代图书馆的四个性质,即"公共"、"容易使人接近"、"因时制宜"、"保存人类思想动作的记载,搜集有益出版物",这一观念在近代知识教育界广为传播形成很大影响。We have verified that Liu Kwoh-chuin＇s The Nature of Modern Library was first issued on New Thought Part of the World Education of The Eastern Times Educational Supplement （September 29, 1919） in Shanghai. The article presented four qualities of modem library, namely ＂public＂, ＂accessible＂, ＂circumstantial＂ and ＂preserving the records of human thinking and collecting useful publications＂, all of which have left an enormous impact on modem education circle.
