A kind of discourse about becoming immortal which indicates passing the imperial examination with be- coming immortal in metaphor, began to appear in the imperial examination poems in Tang Dynasty. This kind of dis- course has two functions. :Whether they met the chance or not, the people of Tang Dynasty both expressed them with becoming immortai. They expressed their pride and good chance with becoming immortal in metaphor, and they wanted to travel in the fairyland when they were disappointed or didn't have good chance. This phenomenon shows complex emotional world and value pursuit of imperial learners in Tang Dynasty under the influence of the Taoist immortals thought. The deep research and analysis can enrich the understanding of examination system and the im- perial culture in Tang Dynasty.
