Objective To investigate the present status of antibiotics use in our hospital for upper respiratory tract infection of children. It was amied at providing data support for preventing antibiotic abuse. Methods The children with upper respiratory tract infection in our hospital from January 2011 to December 2012,were divided into control group (2011) of 200 cases and intervention group (2012) of 200 cases. The kind of drugs, the expense of antibacterial drugs, the rate of antibiotics use and drug combination were statistically analyzed. Results The rate of antibiotics use of inter- vention group was decreased from 99.5% to 84%, was lower than control group (P 〈 0.05 );the rate of drug combina- tion was decreased from 12% to 8%, the expense of antibiotics was decreased from (419.64+63.68) to (347.41+43.20); The most frequently used drugs were the first and the second-generation cephalosporins. Conclusion A series of mea- sures taken in our hospital on the antibiotics use was feasible and effective, to improve the rationality and lower the cost of antibacterial drugs. However, antibacterials were still overused in our hospital. The rationality of antibacterial use needed to be further improved.
