摘　　要：A small town is ＂the end of a city＂, but ＂the start of countryside＂. It is a main point of urban-rural dual structure and an intermediate from countryside to city. Therefore, it is key for the issue concerning ＂agriculture, countryside and farmers＂. In the research, the definition of small towns, the connotation and features of characteristic economy were discussed and the importance of small town characteristic economy and the approaches were proposed.小城镇位居城市之尾、农村之首,是连接我国城乡二元结构的主要节点,是我国农村向城市化转变过程中的中间体,小城镇的有序发展将较好地解决我国目前面临的各类"三农"问题,通过对小城镇的概念、小城镇特色经济的内涵的探讨和对小城镇特色经济显现特点的研究,指出了发展我国小城镇特色经济的重要性,并提出了建设途径。
