Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the major diseases in cardiovascular system. It is very important to unveil the CHD-associated biomarkers for the prevention and treatment of this disease. In this study, twenty blood samples were collected from either healthy controls or patients with CHD followed by isolation of monocytes. The total cellular proteins were extracted from the monocytes and used to determine the protein expression of several molecules which have been documented to play an important role in the development of CHD by Western blot. Compared to controls. The results indicated that ABCA1 expression, an anti- atherogenic molecule, was significantly decreased while the expression of CD36 and PCSK9 (both are pro-atherogenic) was dramatically increased in CHD patient samples. In addition, CD36 expression was observed higher in male patients than that in female patients. Taken together, our findings indicate that the increased CD36 and PCSK9 expression and the decreased ABCA1 expression are associated with the development of CHD in Chinese population. Such changes may indicate that they can be considered as the CHD-associated biomarkers.
