The effects of Sr2+ on growth, survival and Ca2+-ATPase, and Na+/K+-ATPase activities in muscle were studied in chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) juveniles in a laboratory. The chum salmon juveniles with body weight of (0.389±0.021 ) g were reared in a tank in which SrCl2·6H2O was added at a Sr2+mass concentration of 0 (as a control), 10 mg·L^-1, 20 mg·L^-1, 30 mg·L^-1 and 40 mg· L^-1 for 30 days with triplication at water temperature of ( 15 ± 0.2)℃. Results showed that the chum salmon juveniles in each experi- mental group grew within the range of exposure dosages, the maximal growth and survival in the case of Sr2+ mass concentration of 10 mg·L^-1. The muscular Ca2+-ATPase and Na+/K+-ATPase activities were found to be significantly inhibited by Sr2+ ion, with the in- creased in the mass concentration of Sr2+, Ca2+-ATPase and Na+/K+-ATPase activities showing a downward trend. It is concluded that safe concentration of Sr2+ ion for long term exposure is within 10 mg·L^-1 for chum salmon juveniles exposed to Sr2+ ion.
