摘　　要：历史建筑保护在当下的中国似乎是个不合时宜的主题。选择这个主题,一则因为这个话题虽为老生常谈,却似乎并未得到真正重视和理解,民众对历史建筑及其价值的认识比较混乱,而处理方式也单一、粗暴,目前中国仍大量存在拆除历史建筑,甚至拆真建假的现象。二则希望探讨在处理保护和设计的关系时建筑师的可能作为,而这关乎历史建筑的价值再现。因此,主题文章分为理论性探索和案例分析两部分,各有侧重。理论性探索部分,从探讨历史建筑、历史保护的概念出发,继而指向中国对历史建筑的保护观念、价值认识的变化。因为事实上,这些概念在国内也还没有清晰统一的界定,并且一直处于变迁完善过程中。常青在文章中解析风土建筑的概念,探讨地域风土建筑之于环境-文化的因应特征,将之看作体现传统建筑本质和价值的至关要素,并认为上述讨论既属于风土建筑基础研究范畴,也是探索其存续与再生途径的前提。Preservation of historical architecture seems to be an untimely subject in China. Our decision to dedicate a special issue to this topic arises out of our belief that there has yet to be any real professional attention to and understanding of this enduring issue. Our understanding of historical architecture and its value is at best muddled. Preservation approaches are uniform and often brutal, as is evidenced in the widespread practice of dismantling historical buildings and erecting fake ones in their stead. A second concem is that we would like to engage our readers in a discussion on the agency of the architect in dealing with the relations between preservation and design, which has to do with the representation of historical architecture＇s values. For this reason we have divided the therned articles into theoretical explorations and case studies, with their respective emphasis on theon/and practice,
