摘　　要：术语"新传记"是指流行于英国1919年到1939年两次世界大战之间的实验性传记。1927年弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫发表文章评论哈罗德·尼柯尔森的自传《某些人》时,首次使用"新传记"一词,意指现代派有别于维多利亚时期传统传记的新型传记。"新传记"的主要要素是:1、强调传记作家的精神自由;2、主张传记从选材到叙事必须具有艺术性;3、要求传记篇幅简短;4、提倡心理阐释。'The new biography',as a term in biography study,refers to the experimental biographies from 1919to 1939.Virginia Woolf coined the term while reviewing Harold Nicolson’s autobiography Some People(1927).It indicates a new kind of biography which differs from the Victorian traditional ones.Four striking factors characterize'the new biography':1.emphasizing the freedom of the biographer’s spirit;2.Upholding the artfulness of biography-writing in the whole process from selection to narration;3.requiring brevity;4.advocating psychoanalysis.
