摘　　要：从分析麦尔维尔在其经典短篇小说《抄写员巴特比——一个华尔街的故事》中处理历史事件的特殊方式入手,分析批判老律师的虚伪及其主体意识的复苏,剖析小说对资本主义社会去人性化本质)的揭露,揭示巴特比抗争的意义。麦尔维尔的左派激进主义思想体现在他深刻批判资本主义社会的去人性化本质、赞扬主体意识、维护人格自由和尊严的抗争,呼吁真正自由平等的人性回归等几个方面。Starting from studying the special treatment of some historical events in Melville ＇ s classic short story ＂Bartleby the Scrivener——A Story of Wall Street,＂ this thesis analyzes the old lawyer＇ s hypocrisy and the awakening of his subjective consciousness, makes clear the dehumanizing factors in the capitalist society, and exemplifies the significance of Bartleby＇ s resistance. Melville＇ s left radicalism is well exemplified through his cursing the dehumanizing nature of capitalism, sing- ing high for the resistance with strong personal subjective consciousness, a resistance to guard an individual＇ s dignity and freedom, and calling for the return of true humanity.
