Aims: To investigate the anti-oxidative role of compound Shenqin in protecting neonatal rat cardiomyocytes from canine parvovirus-caused injuries. Methods: Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were infected by the canine parvovirus to induce viral oxidative injury. The cell livability was determined by the amounts of SOD and MDA as well as by MTT assay. Results: The protection of the control group was 70.67%±1.33.The protections of the experimental groups with high, moderate and low dosage of compound Shenqin injection were 83.52%,92.35% and 80.72%,respectively.Also,a significant difference of the cell livability was observed between the experimental groups and the control group,p0.01.In addition, the viral injured cell lysis solution showed a low level of SOD and high concentration of MDA.On the contrary, the experimental group improved SOD level and reduced MDA secretion,p0.01.Conclusion: Compound Shenqin protects the canine parvovirus-infected neonatal rat cardiomyocytes. This might be related to the enhanced cell anti-oxidability and the reduced free radicals and overoxidative lipids causing cell injury.
