One of Mark Twain' s masterpieces, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is considered as a milestone in American literature. Influenced by the cultural background of the family, the religion and the society, Huckleberry Finn, the hero in the book, had an innate rebellious consciousness. His rebellious behavior, meanwhile, was constrained by those cultural factors. When he was aware of the hypocrisy of the social civilization of that time, he chose to seek his own spiritual freedom in expres- sion of his rebellious behavior. Although he chose to escape from the hypocritical civilization, he could not completely break a- way from the social culture. In spite of this, his spirit of rebellion was precious at that time.
