In the past three decades, scholars have shown particular interests in the study of Asian American literature, among which drama is a part of their focus. Owing to their popularity, Frank Chin and David Henry Hwang as well as their works have frequently been visited, while others have rarely been studied. Taking Chay Yew, Elizabeth Wong and Philip Kan Gotanda and their plays as an example, the present paper explores the issues they concern about and the tech- niques they employ. Through textual analysis, the author points out that the three Asian American writers demonstrate a clear stand and unique understanding in so many issues. Chay Yew pays much attention to the life of those marginalized gay groups of Asian descendents in western countries and investigates the relationship between gay life and race, ethnicity and politics; Wong worries about the conflicts between different cultures and criticizes severely racial bias; while Gotanda reveals the post-concentration camp life of those Japanese immigrants in America by mining history. All in all, the three have made great contributions to the Asian American dramatic polyphony, thus their voice should not be neglected.
