Scott Momaday. The novel contains rich Indian traditional cultures, which embodies the author's deep concern about Indian cultures. In the novel, Momaday vividly describes Indian traditional cultures, such as farming, hunting, corn dancing, sun dancing, running and so on, which are closely related to growing-up of the protagonist Abel. He concludes that Indian people should adhere to their own traditional cultures first of all; otherwise, they will lose their own self-identity among white-dominated society. The novel embodies Indian's respect for nature, earth, sun, universe, etc. , and their yearning for the harmonious rela- tionship between man and nature. Their unique world outlook, universe outlook can exert a warning role for modern peo- ple who are now faced with ecological problems.
