The concept and principles of effective use of antibiotics are described. Antibiotics are widely used in clinic especially in pediatrics. Considering the characteristics of the physiology and metabolism of children, antibiotics play an important role in the treatment to infectious diseases. But inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics has been resulting in more and more resistance among bacterial pathogens. And a good many physicians and pharmacists have paid great attention to the abuse of antibiotics. Choosing proper antibiotic according to different disease, ensuring the clinical efficacy and reducing the associated adverse drug effect are what we should bring in mind. In order to make more effective use of available antibiotics, we must be able to predict efficacy outcomes better.
