Objective To evaluate the impact ofenllagen dressing on skin barrier function in patients with mild acne. Methods 36 patients with mild acne were enrolled in this randomized, self controlled, split-face study. The patients were asked to apply the collagen dressing on one side of the face randomly. The patients were measured by non-invasive measurements including water content in the stratum comeurn, transepidermal water Ioss(TEWL), sebum excretion and skin color at baseline, 1-week and 4-week after treatment. The number of inflammatory papules and pimples was counted to analyze the efficacy. Results The water content in the stratum comeum increased obviously (P〈0.05) and TEWL decreased evidently on treated side (P 〈 0.01), which illustrated that the collagen dressing could improve skin barrier function in ache patients .The treated side was less prone to experience erythema, roughness and peeling. The number of inflammatory papules decreased, so did the erythema index on the treated side, however, there wasn't statistical significance. No adverse event was reported during the study. Conclusions For patients with mild acne, applying collagen dressing alone could accelerate recovery of skin barrier. It would also inhibit with the inflammation.
