Objective To investigate whether there was excessive apoptosis of aeetabular cartilage cell in early stage of developmental dislocation of the hip (DDH), and to explore the relationship of the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax with acetabular cartilage cell apoptosis. Methods 40 New Zealand white rabbits I male or female, 4 weeks old, (0.5 ± 0.05)kg] were included to produce DDH model by fixing rabbit right hindlimb to stretched knee and flexing hip with plaster east models. The left hind limb was plaster casted as experimental group, and the right hind limbs which were not treated served as control group. Results The successful rate of DDH modeling was 60%, and excessive apoptosis of acetabular cartilage cells did exist in early stage of DDH. The expressions of Bax and Bcl-2 in aeetabular cartilage were opposite, and the ratio of Bel-2/Bax and the rate of acetabular cartilage apoptosis were positively correlated. Conclusion Apoptosis related factors and excessive apoptosis of acetabular cartilage cells in early stage of DDH may be one of the important factors affecting the degeneration of aeetabular cartilage, and may involve in the occurrence and development of acetabular dysplasia in DDH.
