The global dominance of the United States lacks the financial advantage of the erstwhile colonial empires that could set up direct political control and acquire wealth freely. The United States is forced to maintain its hegemonic role and provide the necessary public goods at its own resources. US hegemonic power in the Middle East contains the same vulnerability. The financial crisis was caused by the ceaseless American disastrous military involvements in the Middle East. Collectively, the upheaval in the Arab World, the political awakening of the Middle East countries and the rise of Islamic forces further weakened the US global role. That the United States took a back seat in the Libya War and its reluctance to intervene in the present Chemical Weapons Crisis of Syria show that US global status in the Middle East has reached a turning-point.
