Objective To observe the expression changes of phosphatase of regenerating liver-3 (PRL-3) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in adenomyosis (AM) tissues and to investigate the clinical significance. Methods The samples collected for this study were 30 cases of ectopic endometrium (ectopic group),30 cases of eutopic endometrium(eutopic group)from patients with AM and 30 cases of control endometrium (control group). The expression of PRL-3 and VEGF were measured by immunohistochemistry. Results The expression of PRL-3 and VEGF in ectopic group was increased as compared with that in eutopic and control groups; and eutopic group was higher than control group (all P <0.05).The expression of PRL-3 in hyperplasia period and secretory period of the ectopic and eutopic groups was higher than that of the control group (all P < 0.05).In the control group, the expression of VEGF in secretory period was higher than in hyperplasia period (P < 0.05).In the eutopic group, the expression of PRL-3 was positively correlated with expression of VEGF (r =0.439,P < 0.05).Conclusion The high expression of PRL-3 and VEGF in ectopic and eutopic endometrium may be associated with the onset of AM.
