摘　　要：20世纪80年代初在美国兴起的以语言为焦点的英语官方化运动,试图通过立法进一步确立和巩固英语在美国已有的强势地位,体现了美国主流社会独用英语的语言意识形态,说明了语言对于民族和文化至关重要,它是文化的载体和发展的重要机制,也是民族的象征和认同源泉。同时,从美国英语官方化运动也可以看出语言既具有强大的统一全社会的功能,也具有需谨慎行之的同化其他语言民族的功能。With language problem as its focus,the English Officialization Movement initiated in the US at the beginning of the 1980's,aims to reinforce the already powerful status of the English language through legislation.The movement reflects clearly on the one hand the English-only linguistic ideology of the country,and demonstrates the importance of language to its nation and culture on the other,and thus a contemporary manifestation of social functions of language as national unification and ethnic acculturation.
