摘　　要：中华基督教女青年会美国干事陆慕德(Maud Russell),1917年至1943年间服务于中国,从初始拒绝传教士的身份定位到最后虔诚信仰共产主义,坚定支持中国的革命事业,并在回国后不遗余力地宣传并促请美国民众对中国国情的真正理解,26年的在华经历使她的信仰层面发生了不可思议却毫不犹疑的转变。虽然她的很多举措不为时人理解,其经历仍体现了女性在时代动荡中的多样选择。This paper researches on Maud Russell, an American secretary of Young Women＇s Christian Association of China （abbre. YWCA）, who worked in China from 1917 to 1943. She came to avoid entirely the term ＂missionary＂ in describing her work, preferred ＂social worker＂ instead. Russell gradually believed in Marxist theory and supported CPC firmly in her later years in China. After she came back to U. S. , Russell became an active member of the Committee for a Democratic Far Eastern Policy to write and speak on current events in China and urge American people to understand the real situation of China. Although she might not be understood by others, she represented women＇s various choices in turbulence time.
