Infrared neural stimulation (INS) has been proposed as a new neural stimulation technology for free-contract, spatial- ly selective of neural tissue. Objective: Preliminary study the effectively and safety of pulsed infrared light stimulation in neural tis- sue. Methods: First, we set 808nm INS experimental platform, including 808nm laser, constant current source and control circuit based on MC9SI 2XE; secondly, the output performance of pulsed infrared laser were tested; then modulated laser light with repetition rate 2Hz, pulse width 100 - 1000us was coupled to an optical fiber to stimulate the primary motor cortex of SD rat, and the neural re- sponse was recorded at the same time. Results: The output of pulsed laser was stable; spike rate increased with the increase of the stimulation energy; 808nm pulsed INS didn' t cause any thermal damage with radiant exposure ranged form0.2894 J/cm2 to 2.8939 J/ cm2. Conclusion: In our study, 808 nm laser pulse light control is realized, and the result preliminary confirmed that short-wavelength pulsed near infrared can be used effectively and safcly to activate central neurol.
