Objective To investigate effects of tail-suspension, noise exposure and combination of both on the immune function in mice, and study the protection of cudrapolysaccharide (CPS) against immune changes. Methods Lymphocyte proliferation and the cytokine were respectively measured with MTS eolorimetric method and ELISA. Effects of tail suspended for 7 days, 2 h noise exposure and conbimation of both on the splenic lymphocyte proliferation, the cytokine production of splenic cells and peritoneal macrophages were observed and analyzed. Results Noise exposure for 2 h could increase immune function of Thl cells, but decrease mac- rophage function. Seven days tail-suspension could inhibit the immune functions of both Thl and Th2 cells, but would stimulate macrophage function. CPS could inverse the effects of the combination of tail-suspension and noise exposure on T lymphocyte proliferation, IL-2 secretion of splenic lymphocytes and TNF-αproduction of maerophages. Conclusion The effects of acute and chronic stresses on immune cells show cell specificity. CPS can resist immunosuppression induced by combination of tail-suspension and noise exposure.
