从《故地重游》到《去日留痕》凸显出的英国性的转变

摘　　要：被称为"英国性"的英国民族认同在文学中通常以英国乡村庄园为载体,因此英国传统的庄园小说经常讨论英国的民族精神。本研究通过对比《故地重游》和《去日留痕》发现,前者中的本质主义的民族认同通过怀旧的方式被拥有伦理知识的庄园精神继承者承袭;而后者中的非本质主义的民族认同通过对话和沟通的方式被全体英国民众所共享。因此,英国庄园小说中体现的英国性经历着从给定到构建、从本质主义到非本质主义的改变。The English national identity termed as Englishness is usually carried in the English estate novel which therefore often dis- cusses the English national ethos. By comparing and contrasting Brideshead Revisited and The Remains of the Day, this study finds out that the essentialistic national identity in the former novel is inherited by the spiritual inheritor of the country house with the help of his ethical expertise while in the latter novel the anti-essentialistic national identity is shared by the common people in the country by the way of dialogue and communication. Hence, the Englishness represented by the English estate novel is now constructed and anti-essentialistc instead of being given and essentialistic.
