文学外译的助力/阻力:外文社《红楼梦》英译本编辑行为反思

摘　　要：本文比较了英语读者对外文出版社和企鹅出版社两种《红楼梦》英文全译本的悬殊反应,揭示了外文出版社的出版初衷与译本实际接受效果之间的巨大反差,认为外文社相关编辑行为是造成《红楼梦》英译本在英语世界遇冷的主要原因。我们发现,外文出版社惯常采取的一些编审行为基于传统的"外宣模式",一味强调意识形态输出,对译本的传播与接受造成了极大的阻力。这一模式虽然盛行于20世纪80年代之前,其负面影响却延续至今。本文对此进行深刻反思,希望为国内译介机构所实施的文学外译行为提供一定的启示。Based on a comparative review of readers＇ reception of two complete English translations of Hongloumeng respectively published by Foreign Language Press and Penguin Books and trying to explore why the ambitious intention of Foreign Language Press ends up with utter failure, this article makes reflections on the editing procedures that cause the un popularity of FLP version of Hongloumeng in Englishspeaking world and arrives at the conclusion that the traditional modes of ＂exporting ideology＂, prevalent before 1980s but lingering in 21st century, prove to be hindrance rather than help for the promotion of Chi nese literature in western world. Hopefully some illuminations will be derived from this re flective study for publication projects of translated Chinese literature launched by domestic institutions.
