摘　　要：考古与博物工作是西方传教士在华南沿海地区的活动面相之一,这段历史在中国考古史上还较鲜为人知。从传教士考古活动的动机、形式、内容及结果等方面来看,它们是由传教活动的"副产品"发展为专业性的考古工作。传教士在华南沿海地区的考古发现及其成就,对于推动华南区域考古事业的发展有着一定的影响,在中国考古与文博史上占有相应的一席之地。In the activities of western missionaries in coastal regions of South China, archaeology and museology work constituted one of the cultural features. However, relative to other period of Chinese archaeo- logical history, this period of history are little known. In terms of motive, form, contents and consequence of western missionaries＇ archaeological activities, these activities developed from by-product to professional ar- chaeological work. The archaeological findings as well as the achievement that the western missionaries made in Southern coastal regions, not only can push the development of archaeology in Southern China, but also take their place in the history of Chinese archaeology and cultural museum undertakings.
