Objective To evaluate the effect of increasing the frequency of swallowing function screening on the reduction of risk of inspiration pneumonia after cerebellopontine angle tumor resection. Methods Totally 168 cere- bellopontine angle tumor patients were randomly divided into two groups, 84 in each group. The patients in the experimental group received Watian drinking water test once a day within the first week after operation. The patients in the control group received Watian drinking water test only at the first day after operation. The incidences of dysphagia and aspiration pneumonia were compared between the two groups. Results The incidence of dysphagia in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P〈0.05),while the incidence of aspiration pneumonia in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group(P〈0.05). Conclusion For cerebellopontine angle tumor patients, increasing the frequency of swallowing function screening after operation is valuable to detect dysphagia timely and provide targeted interventions to decrease the incidence of aspiration pneumonia.
