摘　　要：豪威尔斯在《埃蒂莎》中采用多种艺术手法将战争的荒诞性以及残酷本质血淋淋地展示在读者面前,他强烈谴责了那些对战争抱着浪漫幻想以及美化战争的人,他呼吁人类应该超越敌我对抗思维,他倡导一种博爱精神,表达了热爱和平,消灭战争的思想。Howells has adopted various artistic skills in Editha to present the absurdity and cruelty of war to readers vividly, severely criticizing those who have a romantic fantasy toward war and beautify war. Howells calls on people to transcend the antago- nist thinking mode in war and advocates the fraternity spirit for human beings, expressing his peace - loving and anti - war thought. This short novel sows the seed of peace - loving notion in the mind of readers as well as rings an alarm for those war - thirsty people.
