摘　　要：英语俗语是英语习语的一个有机组成部分,是不断发展变化的。英语俗语和英语成语、谚语、俚语之间有着明显的区别。英语俗语包含短语型和句子型两种表现形式。其突出的特性是大量运用各种修辞手段,体现出丰富的英语文化内涵。对英语俗语进行界定,了解其特性有助于更好地区分和运用英语俗语。English colloquialism is an organic component of English idiom and it is always changing and developing. There are obvious distinctions among English colloquialism, proverb, and slang. English colloquialism includes two varieties -- phrasal type and sentence type. The main characteristic of English colloquialism is its frequently-using of different rhetorical devices. The rich English culture is revealed from English colloquialism. Understanding the definition and characteristics of English colloquialism can help learners use it in a proper way.
