In 1930s and 1940s, there were some literary works in Chicago, such as James Farrell' s Studs Lonigan : A Trilogy, Richard Wright' s Native Son, and Nelson Algren' s Never Coming Morning. Back with racial minori- ties' neighborhood of Chicago, these novels reflected the living and mind states of urban "other" : physical poverty and spiritual infertility. Studs, Bigger and Bruno were representatives of urban immigrant youth, and their lives were brief and tragic because of the influence of gang and social environment. In cities, they confronted the crisis of belief loss and moral decay. They were losers and sufferers. These works represent ups and downs and ruining of urban "other". The multi-ethnic and multi-cultural urban life is also depicted.
