Objective To investigate the effect of elevated blood lead level on neurobehavior in children. Methods Thirty-three children with elevated blood lead level (blood lead elevation group ≥100 ug . L-1) and 33 normal children (control group,(100ug . L-1) were recruited in this study. Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist was used to evaluate social withdrawal, depression, sleep problems, somatic complaints, attack and destruction in both groups. Results Compared with control group, the incidences of depression and attack significantly increased in blood lead elevationgroup(45.5% vs 12.1% and 81.8% vs 48.5%,respectively,P〈0.01)- Furthermore, total behavior checklist score in blood lead elevation group(60.36 ± 27.66) was significantly higher than that in control group(41. 73 ± 23. 84) (Z=- 2. 937, P = 0. 003). In addition, the differences in behavior checklist scores for social withdrawal, depression, somatic complaints, attack and destruction were significant between the two groups(P〈0.05). Conclusion Compared with normal children, abnormal behaviors increase in children with elevated blood lead level. Therefore, positive and effective prevention and intervention should be performed to ensure healthy growth of children with elevated Blood lead level.
