摘　　要：《红字》是霍桑最具浪漫主义色彩,也是他最成功的作品。小说中大量的隐喻和象征,不仅给读者提供了广阔的想象空间,而且赋予了作品以丰富的涵义。从"精神生态学"的角度出发,对齐灵渥斯进行深入的解读,尝试寻找这个人物形象给我们的启发。如果说齐灵渥斯的结局说明了个人自身的精神生态严重失衡最终会导致人自身的毁灭,《红字》则是用它的"尾声"提醒人们,人的"内部自然"的回归,是人类可持续发展的不二选择。The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne＇ s best romantic novel, not only provides much of imagination for the readers but also embodies itself profound implications because of a great deal of metaphors and symbols in it. In this paper, efforts are made to find out the enlightenment of the analysis of Chillingworth from the perspective of spiritual ecology. It is concluded that the imbalance of the inner nature of Chillingworth results in his final death and the return and remain of the inner nature is the only way for the sustainable development of human being.
