摘　　要：马丁·威纳的杰作《英国文化与工业精神的衰落》从社会文化角度入手解释了英国工业资本主义衰落的历史原因,在某种程度上推动了撒切尔政府实施新自由主义政策,以重振萎靡不振的英国经济。本文首先发掘了该书的两大思想来源——佩里·安德森对现代英国资本主义道路独特性的探讨与雷蒙·威廉斯对现代英国思想史上"文化与社会"传统的论述,继而分析作者如何有意或无意地掩饰二者对自己至关重要的影响,并解释其中的原因。Martin Weiner's masterpiece English Culture and the Decline of the Industrial Spirit 1850-1980provides an insightful and audacious explanation for the relative decline of British industrial capitalism in terms of conservative social culture,and partially contributes to the making of the neoliberal policies by Margaret Thatcher's cabinet to rejuvenate the sluggish social economy.The present paper traces the two fundamental sources of the book:Perry Anderson's considerations on the particularities of modern English capitalism and Raymond Williams's formulation of 'Culture and Society'tradition in modern English intellectual history,then analyzes and explains the ways in which the author obscures,intentionally or not,the pivotal influence upon him by the two theorists.
