摘  要:大学英语四级考试是由国家教育部高等教育司主持的全国性英语考试,一直以来得到学校的重视、社会的推崇,是学生应聘和就业的法宝。四级考试试题精挑细选,语言精确性和模糊性共生共存。考题中的语言模糊性具体表现为事物本身的模糊性、语言符号表达的模糊性和考生对语篇读解的模糊意识。以美国心理学家布伦斯威克的模糊容忍原则为理论基础,对四级考试中的语言模糊性进行多角度分析,结果表明模糊容忍度高的考生更能对试题内容进行全面高效的读解。College English Test Band 4 is a nationwide English test supervised by the higher edu cation department of education ministry. CET4 has always been attached much importance by school and society and considered a magic weapon to hunt a good job by student. The language in CET4 is carefully modified with preciseness and vagueness. The language vagueness in CET4 is classified into the vagueness in the nature of thing, which is caused by the arbitrariness of language semiotics, and the candidates' vague cognition in discourse. With theoretical foundation of the tolerance of ambiguity put forward by the American psychologist Brunswik, this paper, from a variety of perspectives, ana lyses the language vagueness in CET4. It can be proved that the higher degree of tolerance of ambigu ity the examinee holds, the more comprehensively and efficiently he can interpret the discourse.
