Objective The aims of present study was to determine the expression and significance of anti - apoptotic gene Livin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in eondyloma acuminatum (CA). Methods The expressions of Livin and VEGF were analyzed by immunohistoehemical staining with streptavidin - pemxidase (SP) in tissue specimens from 30 patients with CA, 30 patients with common warts and 20 normal human controls. Results The positive expression rates of Livin in CA, common warts and normal control were 83.33 %, 600% and 300%, respectively. The staining intensity of Livin ranged from 2 + to 3 + in CA lesions, negative to 2 + in the common warts, and negative to 1 + in controls. VEGF was expressed in all groups. The staining intensity of VEGF ranged from 2 + to 3 + in CA, 1 + to 2 + in both the common warts and normal tissues. The expression of Livin and VEGF was significantly different among three groups (P 〈0.01 ). There is a positive correlation between the expression of Livin and VEGF in CA ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion Livin and VEGF were over - expressed in CA, suggesting their involvement in the emergence and development of CA.
