摘　　要：美国文化中心是美国近年在中国高等院校开展的文化外交工程,其传播美国文化思想的目的反映美国文化扩张传统,是在"宗教使命感"驱动下,由理想主义与现实主义相结合的美国文化外交理念在中国的延伸,并得到相对成熟的美国文化外交机制保障。比较美国文化外交理念和文化外交机制,中国孔子学院在开展汉语语言教学同时,应加强对中国文化思想的介绍,并在机制上给予保障,提升中国文化对外传播的有效性。Center for American Culture （CAC） is a project conducted by the U.S. government to spread Americanculture in Chinese universities. It is a reflection of American tradition of cultural expansion. It is also an embodiment ofthe idealistic and realistic thought of the American cultural diplomacy. Based on an analysis of the idea and institutionembodied in CAC, this paper attempts to find out some points that Confucius Institutes could learn from the Center forAmerican Culture.
