By the static volumetric flask method, the simultaneous stabilizing capacities of sulphonate copolymerAA/AMPS for PO43- and Zn2+ has been studied under different Ca2+ concentration and alkalinity conditions. The re-sults show that the effects of Ca2+ concentration and alkalinity on the stabilizing capacities of sulphonate copolymerfor both PO43- and Zn2+ are comparatively larger. Ca2+ concentration between 400-600 mg/L is the inflection point ofthe stabilizing capacity of sulphonate copolymer for PO2-. And, Ca2+ concentration between 600-800 mg/L is the in-flection point of the stabilizing capacity of sulphonate copolymer for Zn2+. When Ca2+ concentration is below the in-flection point, the stabilizing capacities of sulphonate copolymer for both PO43- and Zn2+ are comparatively good.Meanwhile, Ca2+ concentration and alkalinity has less influence on the stabilizing capacity of sulphonate copolymer. When Ca2+ concentration is higher than the inflection point, the stabilizing capacities of sulphonate copolymer for PO43- and Zn2+ are poor. Since the stabilizing capacity of sulphonate copolymer for Ca2+ concentration and alkalinity ispoor,it is necessary to separately add a kind of water treatment agent which has good scale inhibiting capacity forcalcium carbonate, in actual application.
