摘　　要：南通近代历史上著名的教育家张謇曾多次上书清廷,建议效法西洋,在全国范围内设立公共图书馆。张謇创办了南通图书馆,作为我国图书馆事业的早期倡导者和实践者,他的思想和实践是值得我们研究的样本。Zhang Jian, a famous educator in Nantong＇ s modern history, submitted the written statements to the imperial court of Qing dynasty for many times, proposing to learn from Western countries to set up the public library across the country. Zhang Jian Created Nantong Library, being as one of the early advocates and practitioners of China＇ s library cause,his thought and practice is an example worthy of our study.
