Ancient China had great cultural influences in Japan and post-Meiji-Restoration Japan had its profound impact on modern Chinese culture as well. The Chinese books associated with Japan in the Library of the Palace Museum, Beijing are evidence of Sino- Japan exchanges of culture and literature. These books in more than 200 titles were re-printed in Japan, written by Japanese scholars or translated from Japanese during the late Qing dynasty, covering philosophy, politics, medicine, military strategy, painting, bibliography and geography. They are published in block-printed, movable-copper-type-printed, hand-copied, process-printed, letterpress-printed or lithographed editions. Some from the Palace Treasury were presented as gifts to the Qing emperor. The block-printed and hand-copied books that Yang Shoujing acquired in Japan are of special historical values.
