摘　　要：本文旨在检视澳大利亚报业集团的历史发展 ,重点探讨其报业的兼并与集中的形成过程 ;文章还展示了新闻寡头对报业的影响以及澳洲政府为防止报业高度垄断而采取的种种措施。本文在结论中概括了一个滑稽现象———一个主张新闻自由的政府为坚持新闻自由却要对媒体实行管制 !一个尖锐的问题是 :当媒体垄断对新闻自由的威胁变得益发明显时 ,对新闻业进行约束是否必要 ?如果回答是肯定的 ,那么 ,这种约束会危及新闻自由本身吗 ?This paper examines the development of modern Australian press with particular attention to the periods of its annexation and its concentration. The paper also presents how the media monopolies influenced the newspaper industry and the government restrictions on the media domination. In the conclusion, the paper raises a sharp question: when the threat to freedom of the press caused by a concentration of newspaper ownership become apparent, should the press be regulated and if so, would the restriction become a kind of threat to freedom of the press?
