摘　　要：本文说明了在Internet中建立虚拟数据库的必要性和重要性,通过虚拟图书馆实例介绍了虚拟数据库的工作原理和基本构件;探讨了一个基于CORBA和XML技术的通用虚拟数据库模型,具体地说明了CORBA和XML在实现通用虚拟数据库中所起的作用。A virtual database (VDB) can convert the Internet into a database and transform the World Wide Web. So it is quite important and necessary to establish VDB in the Internet.The basic principle and components of VDB are introduced by an example of virtual library. CORBA hides the heterogeneity of different network. XML is a powerful markup language in information exchange, which can express unstructured and semi -structured data with structured forms. A general virtual database is realized by integrating CORBA and XML.
